Welcome to Button Birding!

Set in the beautiful Creighton Valley, flanked by dairy farms, Smithfield Guesthouse offers guests home-away-from-home comfort, warm hospitality, and professional bird guiding and tours.

Malcolm and Gail Gemmell are your hosts. Malcolm is an accredited tourist guide who has 29 years of birding experience in the area and has developed an intimate knowledge of the local bird population, as well as roosts, feeding areas and activities. (And sometimes nest sites.)
He has located several Blue Swallow breeding sites in the district, and provides tours to these and other localities. The Button Birding area hosts some of finest bird species in Southern Africa, due in large part to the extensive array of habitats found here. Specials such as Cape Parrot and Blue Swallow are amongst the list of rare and endangered species. The nomadic Black-rumped Buttonquail appears tantalizingly in the summer, whilst in the winter, we have the equally fickle Cape Eagle Owl from time to time.
