This was my first visit to Creighton, with a wish list of only 8 birds. Malcolm really went out of his way to find these birds, and to top it all I listed 112 species in 2 days in a 10km radius around Creighton! The highlights for me were: Southern Bald Ibis, South African Shelduck, Denham’s Bustard, Red-throated Wryneck, Cape Grassbird, Fan-tailed Widowbird, all three Cranes (Blue, Grey Crowned and Wattled), Drakensberg Prinia, Long-crested Eagle, Black Sparrowhawk, Broad-tailed Warbler, Black-winged Lapwing, Horus Swift, Black-rumped Buttonquail, Cape Batis, Forest Buzzard, Forest Canary, Red-chested Flufftail, Swee Waxbill, Bush Blackcap, Olive Thrush, Red-necked Spurfowl and African Olive-Pigeon, not to mention the secret and mouse-like Buff-spotted Flufftails feeding in the garden beds at Smithfield farm! Only a few of my wish list birds did not show up (Cape Eagle-Owl, Short-tailed Pipit and Red-headed Quelea) – a good reason to visit Gail and Malcolm again and to include Ntsikeni Nature Reserve as well!
